Overview
Although having been at Rosetta for only 11 months, Brendan has had the opportunity to work on six different projects spanning three verticals, including Digital Media and Telecommunications, Healthcare, Consumer Packaged Goods, and an internal infrastructure project. In addition, Brendan has been actively involved in Phase I (segmentation), II (implementation), and III (ongoing management) projects, giving him wide exposure to the entire array of Rosetta's services. He is currently engaged in helping manage an award-winning consumer marketing program for a leading US contact lens manufacturer, and helping expand the success of the program into Canada. In addition, he is leading the development of a segmentation structure for two large consumer packaged goods companies.
Associate Consultants play three critical roles. The first is analytical support, which basically means managing the data for the project and performing the mechanics of the analysis. The second is creating the client content that drives the project, whether through survey development, interpretation of analyses, or responding to data-level client requests. The third role of an Associate Consultant is to learn: there is a tremendous amount you can learn at Rosetta, and everyone from Project Directors to Partners will provide support in helping you move to the next level. Learn from your colleagues, ask questions, try out new approaches, and just watch how much you grow.
I quickly realized that in consulting the hours are sometimes long (I've had one or two 70-hour weeks), and at the Associate Consultant level you'll spend a good portion of your time crunching numbers and dealing with data, so you have to enjoy the analysis that gets to the results. A lot will be expected of you: you have to learn to balance competing priorities, be effective at contributing in a team setting, and debate and defend your ideas, even if that means disagreeing with a senior person.
Along the way you will get an education here like no other, and do it in an environment that is honest, open, fun, and friendly. You will see firsthand the impact your work delivers to your clients; you can directly affect how some of the best companies on the planet do business. You will work side-by-side with and learn from top marketing executives and consultants from world-class companies. You will see how projects are sold, how impact is delivered, and how business is done.
The culture here at Rosetta is professional (ie, we get our work done) yet informal (ie, we have fun while doing it). People are open and friendly and will really listen to your input and feedback. I want to run my own company someday, so I wanted to work at a place where I could learn how business works while still having a life. At the beginning, balancing the workload was a challenge, but with the help of Partners who listened and responded to my concerns, I became much more efficient. Rosetta is very flexible on hours as long as you get your work done―I've left to go to the gym for two hours in the middle of the afternoon (with permission of course!) while awaiting some data.
One of the things I like most about Rosetta is the responsibility with which you're entrusted. That gives you a lot more room to use your potential, feel ownership of the work, and ultimately enjoy yourself more while delivering better results to your clients. Chris and Kurt (the CEO and COO of the firm) are fantastic guys who really care about their employees, and that counts for a lot.
